Most “picky” toddlers and preschoolers are doing exactly what nature designed them to do — and the harder we push, the worse it usually gets. Here’s the parent-tested, pediatrician-approved playbook.
- Serve the same food everyone else is eating — no short-order cooking.
- Repeat exposure: kids often need 10+ neutral exposures to a new food.
- Make veggies the side, not the main event of every battle.
- Let them decide how much to eat. You decide what and when.
- Skip the praise spiral (“Good job eating!”) — it backfires.
- Eat together, screen-free, even just 10 minutes.
- Talk to us if growth, energy, or texture aversions feel off — that’s when we get curious together.
Most picky eating is a developmental phase — but if you’re worried, you don’t have to figure it out alone.
